Xiaomi will finally roll out the stable Android 8.1 Oreo-based MIUI 9 update to all Redmi Note 5 users globally this week, including India. Apart from Google’s new features of Android Oreo, the update will carry one key highlight for Redmi Note 5 smartphones, and it is the Face Unlock. Last week, the global version of stable Android 8.1 Oreo ROM was spotted online suggesting a formal release soon. But now the company has officially confirmed about the rollout via a Mi thread.
Xiaomi has noted that the latest Android 8.1 Oreo-based MIUI update will be rolling out later this week and it brings Face Unlock for Redmi Note 5users. The feature will be available to users in India, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, and Vietnam for now, others users have been asked to ‘wait for the feature patiently’. Additionally, the camera algorithms have been updated for Redmi Note 5, and image quality has been further optimized too.
Xiaomi’s Redmi Note line-up of smartphones has had a great success in India. The company had launched Redmi Note 5 with dated Android 7.1.2 Nougat out-of-the-box. The same phone was launched as Redmi 5 Plus in China.
The Redmi Note 5 users can check for an OTA notification or manually check for the update through phone’s Settings > About phone > System update > Check for updates
Last week, some users had reported about the update being pushed out to them. It was reported that the global version of the update brings the MIUI version to v9.6.5.5.0.
